Great Ways To Find New Keywords

Have you run out of ideas for keywords? Try some of these helpful tools out and see if your keyword juices start flowing again

I have three thesauruses and I've tried them and the online tools to come up with more or better ways to say the same thing. Honestly I don't think the traditional thesaurus and I make a good match but I found Visual Thesaurus to be much more helpful.

http://visualthesaurus.com - Generates a tree of related keywords, kind of like a family tree or a visio site map. Plug in your key word and it will map it out for you. You can drill down through the relationships until you find a key word that works best for you. My new hobby is writing a 50,000 word novel in a month (that's just the ruff draft) and when I write I just blow through it but when I go back for editing the fallowing month I like to make the language more interesting so I take the time to use this site to help me and I really has been much more fun than thumbing through a regular thesaurus. There is a subscription price but for the online version it's only $19.95/year or $2.95/month and they do have a 14 day free trial. Give it a try, you might just find that your writing improves by leaps and bounds
Spy Intelligence: If you've niched out your market and you've only got a few competitors or you're getting up there in a fierce market and want to find out what those other guys are doing that you might not be, this tool can give you a little more info on those keywords and bid prices that they are gunning for.
Disclaimer: These are free tools and they are not 100% accurate but they should help you. Give them a try and if they work Great! But don't bet the farm on their information and remember, they can be used to watch you as well but don't get too caught up with that mind set. Do the best work you can, keep your focus clear (make money not destroy competition) and you'll do fine.
http://spyfoo.com/ - Shows you a list of your competitions major keywords, estimate daily budget, organic listings, average bid position, and number of competitors. If you're heading in to a new market and want to get a lay of the land, this is a helpful tool.
http://www.googspy.com/ - Generally the same information as SpyFoo but presents if differently and to me it seems their keyword list have a few more holes but it's a good cross reference.
http://www.lexfn.com/ - This isn't a sleuthing tool but it does give some new options:
    • Show related: Find words related to the first word
    • Connection: Find connections between the words
    • Show reachable: Find words reachable within links
    • Intersection: Find words reachable from both words
    • Rhyme coercion: Find related words that rhyme
    • Spell check: Find words spelled similarly to the first
    • Substring: Find words containing the first as a substring
http://buzz.yahoo.com/ - I'm sure you've heard that the News is a great place to find the new buzz words and pop culture seems to be the front runner for this in the news. Not only can you find those new keywords here but you can also get a little story to throw in with it that you could put in your blog or news letter. This is even more helpful if your main topic of interest happens to be pop culture it self.
http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends - Hot Trends use to be Zeitgeist. On May 22, 2007, the original Google Zeitgeist was replaced by Hot Trends. Hot Trends is a dynamic feature with regular updates throughout the day into what people are searching for on Google. They also have the Gadget version of Google Hot Trends which plugs in to your Google home page. I don't know about you but I love my home page for getting the latest news, email and seeing my calendar.
Google's Keyword Suggest - http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en - Google suggests extend phrases. For instance, I start typing "refinance" and a list appears underneath with:
    • refinance student loan
    • refinance home mortgage
    • refinance loan
    • refinance mortgage
    • refinance home
